In 2013 rende ik mijn eerste Marathon in New York.

In totaal dus €4.200

In exactly 13 weeks it's time…I'm running the Chicago Marathon!
After two years of Corona delay, I am planned to be at the start line on October 9th this year.
This will be my 3rd marathon with diabetes type 1. Running a marathon is a challenge itself, but with diabetes T1, I can tell you all the more.

In 2013, I ran my first marathon in New York. Not knowing that less than three months later I would be diagnosed with diabetes type 1.
One moment you finish the New York Marathon and suddenly you're in the hospital with a glucose meter, insulin pens and a chronic disease with a 0% chance of recovery.
The world sank beneath my feet. I thought I could forget doing sports for the rest of my life.

After a period of learning to cope with diabetes and getting my blood sugars under control, I started running again. I wanted to prove the world, but especially myself that diabetes would not stand in the way of my active lifestyle.
The result; in 2016 I ran the New York Marathon with a new personal record.

In 2019, I traveled to Japan to run the Tokyo Marathon. The weather conditions were bad; 5 degrees, rain and a cold wind. My pace was a lot slower than expected, and I couldn't get my blood sugars under control. Here I was faced with the facts that running with diabetes can be extremely demanding. Running 42km with a very high blood sugar and totally sore legs was an ultimate challenge.
Not a personal record, but I also reached the finish line here.

Now on October 9th, 2022 the time has come, I will take up the challenge again.
Even after two marathons with diabetes, it is still trial and error. Training is more than once interrupted because of too low / high blood sugars. Bad days will always be there….But I'm not giving up!

My biggest dream (is of course) is to one day run a marathon without the worries of diabetes, just put your mind to 0 and run. And that’s why I'm raising money for DON.

My goal for the Chicago Marathon: Run a new personal record and to collect €100 for every kilometrefor for DON!
So in total €4,200

I'll have to do that personal record myself, but I need your help for that €4,200!
I hope 100 people will DONATE the symbolic amount of €42.
(I have already donated the first €42).

*Of course smaller/larger donations are also welcome.
Everything is appreciated!
